WOLF CREEK HERITAGE MUSEUM NOTES by Virginia Scott This is the last column for 2008. The museum has had a good year and with the holidays occurring on Thursday, we have not had our wednesday work day. The museum is on holiday hours so please call before you journey to see us. We will be open on Monday and Tuesday and Friday of the New Year week but may close early . With this good weather , you need a good winter book to read! Please come check out our new arrivals. We now have in stock the "Worst of Hard Times" by Thomas Egan. He spent a week at our museum, interviewing and researching our archives for this book. It is the best reference on the "Dust Bowl" personal impact in recent years. A must read for historians. The Texas Humanities office in Austin held a booksigning recently on new releases about Texas for the benefit of museum affected by Hurricane IKE. We ordered one copy of several titles and they had them autographed by the authors and shipped to us. Please come in and buy one of these books, the purchase will benefit us and the museums hurt by IKE. The subjects of the books are the history of the University of Texas; biographies of Bob Bullock, Barbara Jorday, and Coach Royal; and John Haley's History of Texas . We end the year with the recognition of those we have lost in 2008. The following individuals were remembered by their loved ones and friends through a memorial gift to the museum :
To everyone who donated in memory of someone , we thank you for remembering us. Memorials to non profit organizations in our area is a wonderful gift that keeps their memory alive. To everyone with end the year with a hugh MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! WE WILL SEE YOU IN THIS COLUMN IN 2009. |
