WOLF CREEK HERITAGE MUSEUM NOTES by Virginia Scott MUSEUM HAPPENINGS We are back and getting ready for a great year. While we were on vacation, the carpet was cleaned so we are nice and clean and ready for a new year. We will be planning the year's programs and exhibits so if you have a collection or a program you would like to share, give us a call. We will be preparing the annual report and completing all the required state reporting this month. The board will have their first meeting on the 21st, Thursday to establish goals and meetings for the year. With the completion of our buildings we can focus on other projects so it should be a great year. HISTORICAL MUSINGS Here are a few historical facts that happened on January 4: 1896 - Utah is admitted to the Union as the forty-five state 1904 the supreme court rules that Puerto Rican residents are not aliens and cannot be refused admission the the United States (received full citizenship in 1917) 1923 French psychologist Emil Coue brings his self-esteem therapy to America, its centerpiece the motto "Every day in every way I am getting better and better" Jan 6, 1888 - Panhandle Interstate reported that Teams are at work drawing the lumber for the Dunkard church to be built at Lipscomb. Also that the holidays were duly celebrated in Lipscomb county by Christmas trees in four different localities. This makes quite a showing and tells us that we are rapidly leaving the frontier days behind. Another year will have witnessed a change from the natural, the savage and the rude to the artistic the civilized and the refined. HAPPY NEW YEAR ! |
