WOLF CREEK HERITAGE MUSEUM NOTES by Virginia Scott MUSEUM HAPPENINGS As I write this column on this Monday morning, I am drip drying. It is raining very hard here and I believe we are water logged and more coming. Welcome to Spring rains. The museum is closed because we don't endanger our volunteers during weather. There is a sign to call us locals if you need into the museum. It was Senior day in Lipscomb last week and they used our meeting room for speakers and toured the museum. It is always nice to see the graduating classes and their comments. Congratulations to all of them and best wishes for your future. Another reminder to call the museum prior to coming to make sure we are open. Our number is 806-852-2123. We also open for special occasions and out of town visitors. Reminder: we will not have Bingo this month due to Memorial Day Holiday. HISTORICAL MUSINGS It appears that May and June are traditionally wet months in Lipscomb county area, the Lime Light reported in May 29, 1919: "During the heavy rains of Saturday night and Sunday the approach to the north end of the bridge at this place across Wolfe creek gave way which has greatly handicapped crossing. Cars have been making it all right but leaves it out of commission for loads. Work is beginning on preparing roads this morning and without doubt will be in passable condition before long unless another heavy rise comes down from further up." Be careful if you must drive because we still have some of those low places across our creeks. In Closing, here is a shout out to Carly at the Goodnight museum who reads our column each week. Stay dry and safe. |
