WOLF CREEK HERITAGE MUSEUM NOTES
by Virginia Scott

MUSEUM HAPPENINGS

Wednesday was a busy day. We are preparing our annual membership drive and the group had to review our mailing list to make corrections. The discussion was lively with who moved, who was divorced, and the big question who was still alive. A modern version of the gossip circle.

We are very close to our goal for the new addition and this years membership will mainly be used for it. So when you receive your renewal please keep that in mind.

The fundraiser for this year is set for October 26, 2013, Saturday. At 6:30 pm at the School in Lipscomb. The Outlaws are this year's entertainment and the food is BBQ dinner. Tickets are $15 each and $25 for couple available at the museum or any of our board members and Wednesday angels. Call the museum to make your reservations.

REMINDER: Alex Hunt, a West Texas Professor, will be our guest speaker on Sunday, September 29, 2013. He will speak on the history of the Panhandle.

HISTORICAL MUSINGS

Continuing Ms. Wheatley's columns she describes her girlhood school ware "I remember in early girlhood the copper-toed shoes we had for winter wear. They were of heavy leather with a piece of copper or brass across the toe to resist rocks, clods or whatever was in the path. Along with these were long stockings of yarn, knitted at home. They reached well above the knees, no naked limbs shining then. Dresses were below the knee for warmth and protection. In summer we went barefoot most of the time and were happy to be possessor of shoes and cotton stockings for special occasions. Of course, we had to have a hat they were cheap and used on every occasion. I do not recall any beauty shops, though there may and likely were some in the cities."
