WOLF CREEK HERITAGE MUSEUM NOTES

MUSEUM HAPPENINGS

A busy Memorial Weekend in Lipscomb County. On Saturday, the museum under the leadership of Harold Haines returned the Bingo night to Lipscomb county. When I first moved to Lipscomb, LaVaun Kraft took me to the Legion Bingo Night in Darrouzett and this is how I met a lot of Lipscomb County people. So it was fun to see the game return.

There was a nice crowd at the event and lots of Bingos and great prizes. We hope this becomes a regular event, so look for the announcement posters and join us.

On Monday, there was Memorial programs in Higgins and Darrouzett followed by the traditional beans and cornbread. These programs with the reading of our lost soldiers and veterans is always heartfelt and emotional. The museum tries to honor our military with our military exhibit and our book, The Ultimate Gift. Unfortunately, we will be having to redesign our military section to include the latest conflict.

On Wednesday, the museum core volunteers took a field trip to Pampa to pick our new flooring for our entrance area. We look forward to the new look and the redesign of our gift shop.

HISTORICAL MUSINGS

In the May 25,1916 issue of the Lipscomb Limelight, it was reported that cement and lumber was arriving for the new courthouse. At a cost of $35,000, the paper reported that "Lipscomb will have something to be proud of as it will be a modern structure throughout". At present the courthouse is among other county courthouses participating in the Historical Commission restoration program. Our courthouse is still sought out as one of the best in the State. Something we can all still be proud of 100 and one years later.

life lesson: from a child of 8: "I've learned that my daddy can say a lot of words I can't."
