by Virginia Scott

MUSEUM HAPPENINGS

A quiet but productive week for the museum. We were preparing for our board meeting which met on Wednesday of this week and I will report on our meeting in next week's column.
We also received new items for display in the museum We have a portable bath tub on loan from Bob Lewis that was used before indoor plumbing came to our area. It is on display in our early home area.
We have also received the First Baptist Church of Follett replica that was in the Follett celebration parade.

Remember our program on Sunday, October 22 on the "GREAT WAR AND THE WOMEN OF THE PANHANDLE" at 2pm.

Our fundraiser is on November 4 at 6pm with a silent and live auction and presentation on the preservation efforts on the gulf coast. tickets available at the museum or board members. $25 per person.

HISTORICAL MUSINGS

In World War I, there was a food conservation campaign. The following is the announcement in the Oct. 25, 1917 limelight:
"Now the food conservation campaign commences Monday morning in this vicinity. Representatives will call upon 'the lady of the house,' so don't get frightened if an aggregation of good looking gentlemen knocks at the door. It will not be the accustomed picture man nor book agent, but simply some of your own country that has come to solicit your aid in conserving the food stuffs which is so valuable toward winning the great war."

Come to our program on the 22nd and share your families memories of the great war and hear about the local programs to support the war efforts. see you soon.
