WOLF CREEK HERITAGE MUSEUM NOTES
by Virginia Scott

MUSEUM HAPPENINGS

Usual week with good visitor traffic. We are almost finished with the mechanics of our membership drive and will be mailing most of the letters this week.

We are in the process of grant writing to finish the funds needed for our new addition. We will begin construction any time now. So don't be surprised if we have new parking arrangements when you visit because we are building out the south door.

We have two events coming up, MARK YOUR CALENDARS: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29- 2 PM PROGRAM ON THE HISTORY OF THIS AREA presented by Alex Hunt, Professor from West Texas State University ( I think it is West Texas A&M now but I am not sure). This event will also be the reception for Dick Wilberforce and his exhibit of wildlife photographs.

Saturday, October 26 at p.m. at the Lipscomb School is our annual fundraiser. The Outlaws will be this years entertainment. Tickets are available at the museum $15 each, $25 a couple. Call and make your reservations now.

Dorothy is almost complete with her business 50 year recognition and she is arranging schedules so we can have the reception to recognize our businesses.

HISTORICAL MUSINGS

I offer the following poem for this weeks musing:

YOUR TOWN AND YOU

If you want to live in the kind of a town
Like the kind of a town you like,
You needn't slip your clothes in a grip
And start on a long long hike.
For you'll only find what you left behind,
For there's nothing that's really new.
It's a knock at yourself when you knock your town---
It isn't the town it's you.

Good towns are not made by men afraid
Lest somebody else gets ahead.
And if everyone works and nobody shirks
You can raise a town from the dead.

And if while you make your personal pile
Your neighbor can make his too,
Your town can be what you want it to be--
It isn't the town, it's YOU!
