WOLF CREEK HERITAGE MUSEUM NOTES by Virginia Scott MUSEUM HAPPENINGS Saturday night bingo had a small but eager group to win. As usual everyone had a great time. It is time to change art exhibits so will be welcoming Shari Schinzler. We thank Vicki Schafer for her exhibit. Our Wednesday group is busy auditing the archive room and will be even busier this week since people are spring cleaning and bringing in family treasures for us. We appreciate the donations and remind everyone to think of us. With recent donations we will be able to displays so 50's and 60's items. We also have new aprons for sale in the gift shop especially Mother (grandmother) and daughter (granddaughter) matching aprons. We are also planning our spring tea so stay tuned for the dates. HISTORICAL MUSINGS With our weekend rains, this past report of rain seems appropriate. In the June 27, 1957 Limelight the headline was "Heavy Rains Damage roads and Bridges" : "Heavy rains reported up to seven inches in parts of northwest Lipscomb county... sent a wall of water rushing down Wolf Creek and washed out approximately 40 feet of the approach to the new bridge on FM2077 between Higgins and Follett. At the height of the flash flood water was running over the pavement nearly one-half mile west of the bridge. Three bridges were damaged throughout the county with the Electric service being disrupted as well. Total rainfall in Higgins as recorded at the official gauge for period of Jan.1 to June 27 was 23.60 inches. So I guess we can consider June historically a wet month in Lipscomb County. |
