WOLF CREEK HERITAGE MUSEUM NOTES by Virginia Scott MUSEUM HAPPENINGS We had great attendance at the board meeting on Tuesday. We held the meeting in our new board/library/research room in the new addition and everyone fit in every nicely. The opening of the meeting was the viewing of the State required video on the open meeting law. This video available from the state Attorney General's office is required of all non-profit boards on the rules governing their meetings and the availability of the public to attend their meetings and the posting of their agendas and meeting notices. After this inservice business was conducted for the two boards: the Lipscomb County Historical Commission and the Wolf Creek Heritage Museum. The Museum board discussed the exhibits for the new area and the 2014 membership drive as well as budget for 2014. The vacancies on the board were announced with members needed for 5 seats to represent Higgins and Follett. Several nominations were presented and Judge Smith and Anna Lee Barton will pursue. The chairperson appointed a Bylaws review committee and 2014 goals for the two boards as follows: Historical Commission will continue their works on possible subjects for historical markers, assist with new exhibits, investigate the removal and restoration of Arch McCarty mural. The museum will develop new exhibits in new addition and expand the Disaster Preparedness Plan for new area, continue participation in Steps Program, and invite the local Fire Departments to museum for tour and inspection of museum preparedness plan. Minutes of these meetings are available in the museum office and are open for public review. HISTORICAL MUSINGS In the January 28,1964 issue of the The Kiowa Valley Independent the home demonstration report contained several tips on how to clean your blankets and of great interest was 'Hats for You' "Your hat is the most important of any accessory because unconsciously the eyes of your friends start with your face and travel down your figure. Well hatted, well gloved and well shod means well dressed. " This issue also contains an article by Arch McCarty and his trip to Alaska which I will include in next week's column. |
